Garrison Starr House Concert January 19, 2008

garrison2.jpgJust the other day I was explaining to a friend that while I'm a fiend for music I don't see a lot of live music performances because I just don't enjoy shows in large or overcrowded venues.

Turns out I could have been seeing more live music all this time if I'd been more familiar with a little something called the house concert.

River City House Concerts
is bringing Garrison Starr to Louisville for an intimate house concert Saturday January 19, 2008. Doors open at 6:30PM, the show starts at 7:30PM. Tickets are $15 and reservations are required.

Touring in support of her latest CD The Girl That Killed September, Garrison Starr will be playing an intimate house concert in Louisville, KY.

This concert is open to the public, but seating is very limited (fewer than 40 seats available).  To make reservations to attend and for additional information please contact Charters Harrison at 502-262-7405 or chartersny@gmail.com.
Less than 40 seats? Sweet. That's exactly how I like my live music performances.
If you're not familiar with Garrison Starr check out all the cool people who sing her praises:

Garrison Starr is a song writer, performer and recording artist with passion.  She doesn't live and breathe for the hit parade, she doesn't play fashion doll, she just writes and sings her heart out.  She knows what matters.   In the American Idolized landscape that constitues today's music business, she is someone to be thankful for..."
-Mary Chapin Carpenter

"I love Garrison"
–Margaret Cho

"Sports one of the strongest voices in town.  She is also the author of affecting, emotion- bearing songs that are clothed in attractive, melodic garb."
–Billboard magazine

"Garrison Starr's greatest gift is her gorgeous, full, rough, passionate voice that can be ultimately pensive, intimate, hurt, consoling, libidinous, or scornful – sometimes during the same verse.  Her raw phrasing would take Sarah McLachlan and Neko Case's lunch money"
–MSNBC

Wow, that's awesome. You can add me and Curve Magazine to the list of accolades, but my review won't be published til the March 08 issue so I can't offer it here. But I can summarize to say that I think "The Girl That Killed September" is Starr's best album to date, where the music and production finally gel in a way that really compliments her lyrics and her voice. It's a really strong effort.

What a treat to get to see her in such an intimate setting!

Wow that's good to know. This really is a great opportunity to see a performer in such an intimate setting. I hope people support the artist and the endeavor. I'd love to see River City House Concerts be able to bring more shows like this to town.
