Weekend Events Roundup: February 1-3, 2008
Friday February 1, 2008
It's first Friday Gallery Hop time. Lots of good stuff going on for it including Christopher Hauck's Identity Crisis at Gallery NuLu and the opening of the 14th annual African American Art Exhibition at Actors
Derby City Espresso has two very cool things going on that are definitely worth your attention. First, they'll be introducing the brand new BBC Derby City Espresso Stout to the world with a free tasting (free beer!). As if that wasn't enough they'll also be celebrating the opening of a new group exhibition of queer artists.
The Tim Faulkner Gallery will be celebrating the opening of "Portraits" by Terry Tapp.
Last but certainly not least is the benefit for LAVA House at Barret Bar.
Since it's not going to be too terribly cold on Saturday head down to Jefferson Memorial Forest to learn some map and compass skills
If you're feeling the environmentally love then you can't go wrong with the I Love Mountains Benefit (Wendell Berry!)
If you need a little more action than the I Love Mountains benefit can provide then you must get yourself to the Derby City Roller Girls inaugral bout of the the 2008 season: Love Hurts
The 930 Art Center is having on opening event for the exhibition Homeless: Telling Our Own Stories
Sunday February 3, 2008
Um, well, it's Super Bowl Sunday. If you're not into the Super Bowl you can check out The Knit Nook's Super Bowl Sunday Sale.
"This Sunday is our Super Bowl Sunday Sale, our annual football and knitting combination event." "Actually, it's not about football at all, it's all about yarn. EVERYTHING in the store will be 15% - 75% off. We'll be open 10 am - 6 pm, so come early!
We'll also be collecting yarn and handmade hats and scarves for the Coalition for the Homeless. So this is a great opportunity to clean out your stash, donate what you don't want to a great cause, and buy more at a great price!"
