International Full Belly

| | Comments (0) | Food , Louisville Dining , Louisville Restaurants
I'd planned for this past weekend to be laid back and relaxed. We had a couple dinners with friends scheduled but nothing else was on the agenda. Then on Friday we got a call that some friends were quite unexpectedly going to be on our doorstep. We love them, they're good people so we said "sure, come on." Come they did, including two children under five. It was a full weekend to be sure and by full I mean full bellies. These friends enjoy eating as much as I do and since they aren't from Louisville every time they come I want them to get a solid taste of the Louisville restaurant scene. I didn't plan it this way but we ended up taking an international eating tour around Louisville.
On Friday night we had Argentinian at Palermo Viejo. This was actually the first time I'd ever been there and I really enjoyed it. Truth be told though it wasn't the Argentinian beef that I liked best. My favorite items from the meal included the provoleta, a fantastic grilled cheese dish and the portabella milanesa, a breaded and broiled portabella mushroom topped with tomatoes, cheese and spices.

On Sunday afternoon we hit Sitar. You already know of my love for Sitar, no reason to go over that again. I will say that this was the children's first experience with Indian food and they were great sports and loved it.

Sunday evening we had a fantastic meal at Havana Rumba. I love all things Cuban so it only makes sense that I'd love Havana Rumba. Our visiting friends are Columbian and since Cuban and Columbian foods share some core ingredients we thought it would be a good choice for dinner. Right we were. Much pork, plantains, rice and beans were enjoyed. It was also a pleasant surprise for our Columbian friends that our waitress was Columbian as well. My birthday isn't until July but I think I've already decided that I want my birthday dinner to be at Havana Rumba. Are you in?

Since dinner at Havana Rumba was so good we were inspired to finally give Mojito a try the next day. I'd been wanting to check out the tapas spot owned by the Havana Rumba owners for quite sometime but I never, ever go to the Holiday Manor area if I can help it. It's nothing personal, it's just, you know, past the Watterson for goodness sake. But last night we drove out there. We were rewarded for braving rush hour traffic (going eastward even) with pretty crappy service but really, really good food. In the restaurant's defense I'll say that it looked like every single server in the place was really good except the one we had. So I'm definitely ready to give Mojito another try for the great food alone and I'll have a good and hopeful attitude about getting a different server.

In summation: I ate way, way too much good food this weekend and you should eat at all the places I mentioned in this post. The end.
