Get Involved with the Clifton Community Garden

| | Comments (0) | Clifton , Community Involvement
I love the idea of community gardens. Sometimes, when walking about the city, I'll imagine empty lots of underused parking lots and imagine them overflowing with rows of food being grown. We need more community gardens in Louisville! The good folks in Clifton are doing their part to make this a reality. On Sunday December 7, 2008 they're having a planning meeting for the Clifton Community Garden and all are invited.

Exciting to note that you do not have to live in Clifton to be involved with the community garden. It would be awesome to get involved with the Clifton Community Garden and learn all you can and then go back and start working on community gardening efforts in your neighborhood.

Once again I just wanted to remind you that the Clifton Community Garden is still rolling forward! We are currently in a design phase, getting down a site plan to be presented to Sacred Heart Village retirement home and the Louisville historic landmarks committee. We need your ideas! So if you're excited about being a part of the garden, please come to the next meeting.

The next meeting is December 7th, at 4 PM at United Crescent Hill Ministries (the round brick building at the corner of Frankfort Ave. and State St- come on in the front door and to the conference room on the left or right).

Meetings will be regular from here on, and we will keep you updated. Don't be shy- come on in!

A little background: A lease agreement has been signed with Sacred Heart Village retirement home and a formal committee has formed (as a subcommittee of the Clifton Community Council). THE COMMITTEE IS OPEN TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO BE INVOLVED IN THE DESIGN CONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE, OR ORGANIZING OF THE GARDEN. Anyone, regardless of residence inside or outside of Clifton, may join the committee to offer ideas for what they would like to see happen in the garden, and all proposals will be voted on by the committee. We'd like to maintain a focus on organic gardening and sustainable resource management and construction practices.
