Though the name is....somewhat lacking appeal I think the concept itself is brilliant so I'm pleased to tell you about The Melting Pot's Hospitality Industry Professionals night: "Summer H.I.P. to Dip Nights". When you eat out as much as I do you learn to respect how hard working in the restaurant industry is. I sure couldn't do it. I read a comment on a forum the other day from a restaurant worker who said essentially that on his salary he couldn't afford to eat the food he served everyday. While a discount one night a week at a fondue restaurant won't change the economic facts of the restaurant industry a 30% discount is pretty significant and I would think it will be welcomed.

The Melting Pot of Louisville, located at 2045 S. Hurstbourne Parkway, will host "Summer H.I.P. to Dip Nights" every Tuesday from May through August 2008. Service and hospitality industry professionals who show proof that they work in the bar, restaurant, or hotel business in the Louisville area will enjoy 30% off food and beverages every Tuesday night after 8:00 p.m.

The offer cannot be used with any other offer and is not valid during holidays or special events. The Melting Pot of Louisville is open Monday through Thursday 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Friday 5:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Saturday 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Sunday 3:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. For reservations, call (502) 491-3125.
Update: In woefully unpleasant news I have to tell you that Raiders of the Lost Ark won't be shown in the park. For some reason, since I wrote about this, the movie that will be shown at this event has been changed from Raiders of the Lost Ark to Goonies.

I am so excited for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull which is coming out in late May. So excited. I don't care if he's old, I don't care if fanboys hate George Lucas for "destroying Star Wars", I don't care if most of Steven Spielberg's recent movies have sucked. I care about none of that. I can about the fact that Indiana Jones kicks ass. That being said I'm pleased to tell you that you can head out to EP Tom Sawyer Park next Saturday night to watch Raiders of the Lost Arc under the stars. It's the first in what is hoped to be a series of Movie Night under the Stars and Picnic in the Park at EP Tom Sawyer State Park.

The event last from 7PM-Midnight with some other activities thrown in but the only important part is that Raiders of the Lost Arc starts at 8:45. OK fine, another important part is that the event is a benefit for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Jo Self and Bon Vivant Savant presents the first of - and hopefully many - Movie Night under the Stars and Picnic in the Park at EP Tom Sawyer State Park, Saturday, May 10 from 7:00pm-Midnight. This family fun event will feature the original Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark, which begins @ 8:45 as well inflatable jumpies, the Chick-fil-A Cow and complimentary Chick-fil-A chicken, $1 popcorn and cotton candy machines, music prior to movie and some good ole fashioned fun!

Event Line-Up:
7:00pm-8:00pm-BabyFishMouth performs
8:00pm-8:45pm Announcements and Introduction of Boy and Girl of the Year
8:45: "Raiders of the Lost Ark" begins

EP Tom Sawyer State Park offers plenty of ample parking and bathrooms. The event will be held right by the pool and main parking entrance. Coolers are welcomed but no alcohol allowe.

ALL Money raised will go towards the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

I was looking at Corbett's website yesterday (aside: yay! They finally got a website) and saw that they have all of their menus online including something called the Grande Tasting
Menu
. There is no price listed with the Grande Tasting Menu. That of course means I can't afford it. Let's overlook that though because I want to tell you that there is not just one Grande Tasting Menu there are two including a, wait for it, wait for it, Vegetarian Grande Tasting Menu! Maybe instead of going to Havana Rumba for a festive birthday dinner in July I'll save up and hit Corbett's for the Vegetarian Grande Tasting Menu instead. Of course someone will need to tell me just exactly how much I need to save up.
Totally unrelated but let me mention how much I used to love watching the British soap East Enders on BBC America. Then they took it away from me. Hateful.

Metro Councilman Kevin Kramer will host the Fifth Annual District 11 clean-up on Saturday, March 29. The clean up will run between the hours of 9:00 a.m. until 11 a.m. with District 11 volunteers meeting at the Hurstbourne Springs Sales Office (3400 Stony Spring Circle near the intersection of Raintree Drive and Hurstbourne Parkway). Volunteers at the event will receive free t-shirts, trash bags and gloves as they help to clean up common areas near the railroad tracks off Raintree Drive.
Yeah, I'm square, I think kites are cool. Sue me.

April is National Kite Month and we here at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park want to kick it off right, so on March 29th we will again be hosting our annual Kite Day.

There will be a "Fun Fly" where you can show off your own kite flying skills and there will also be other various kite-centered contests and a professional kite-flying demonstration.

There is no cost for this event and the first 40 participants will receive a free kite.

Saturday March 22, 2008 the Easter bunny will bringing it to E.P. Tom Sawyer Park and by "it" I mean over 10,000 freaking Easter eggs.

The Easter bunny will make an appearance around 12:30 p.m.

Over 10,000 candy filled eggs will be hidden for children ages 1 to 10 years old.

Sections will be divided up for each age group, with 2,500 eggs in each section. Prize eggs will have a ticket inside which can be redeemed for one of several different prizes.

The egg hunt will begin at 1 p.m. for 2 years of age and under; 1:10 p.m. for 3-4 year olds; 1:20 for 5-7 year olds; and 1:30 for the 8-10 year olds.

This is a fun free event for the entire family.
We've discussed how I'm not a beer drinker, thus my input on this event probably wouldn't be helpful at all. So I'll just directly quote the press release instead.

Belgium displays unparalleled diversity of flavor and color in its native beer styles, and on Tuesday, March 4, Corbett's "An American Place" presents a dinner to celebrate the history and nuances of these noble brews. From the strong Trappist ales to the fruity lambics, Belgian beers offer extensive food pairing possibilities, and Pete Larsen of Wetten Imports has put together an unforgettable list. He will be on hand to discuss each brew along with Corbett's assistant general manager Carrie Crouch.

Belgian beers inspire reverence typically reserved for the finest wines. The cost for this dinner is $55 per person and includes five-courses prepared by Corbett's executive chef Chris Howerton. Tax and gratuity are additional. The evening begins with a 6:30 p.m. reception followed by dinner service at 7 p.m. Seating is limited for this special event and reservations may be made by calling (502) 327-5058.

I'm sad to say that I still haven't made it to Corbett's for a meal yet. I hope to change that quite soon both because I've heard great, great things about it and because I want to write a review of it because apparently, information about Corbett's is a hot commodity. Each day a surprisingly large number of viewers find their way to Consuming Louisville looking for information about Corbett's restaurant. They come via a variety of web searches like "Corbett's fine dining Louisville" or "Louisville Corbett's" or "Corbett's menu Louisville" or "Corbett's restaurant Louisville" or "where is Corbett's in Louisville" and on and on it goes.

So as soon as I dine at Corbett's rest assured I'll be writing a review. In the meantime allow me to share Corbett's menu(s). Menu information is current as of January 23, 2008.
