Two Kentucky Opera notes for this gorgeous Friday in Louisville. The first, and most important, is that today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. As such, if you call the Kentucky Opera and order Pirates of Penzance tickets you get 50% off either the October 26 or October 28, 2008 performance. You must talk like a pirate though! They're not handing this discount out to every scallywag.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day
Friday, September 19
Celebrate with Kentucky Opera and get 50% OFF TICKETS to Gilbert & Sullivan's PIRATES OF PENZANCE

Call 502.584.7777 on September 19, 2008
Good for October 26 and 28 performances only.
Must talk like a pirate to get discount.
Even if you don't like opera you've got to admit this is an awesome promotion. You should buy tickets just to encourage them to do more promotions like this.

The second note is that Verdi's Otello opens next week. I don't have much more to say on that one. It's certainly no talk like a pirate day but it looks like it's starring incredibly beautiful people.

Based on Shakespeare's tale of love, lust, jealousy and betrayal, this scandalous tale sees the return of Garnett Bruce - director of last season's TURANDOT- and introduces Kelly Kaduce making her Desdemona and Kentucky Opera debut!

The bard put the elements together for a dramatic scene of murder and foul play. Verdi made it an operatic masterpiece.

In Italian with projected English translations.
Composer: Giuseppe Verdi | Librettist: Arrigo Boito
Based on the stage play, Othello, by William Shakespeare
pirate.jpgWell they missed talk like a pirate day but I'll give the Kentucky Opera Guild a pass and let you know about their upcoming Viva Voce event.

Apparently you can come out, participate in wine and spirit tastings, participate in a silent auction, eat free appetizers, oh and talk like a pirate all while benefiting The Kentucky Opera. Really, what more could you ask for in an event. Nothing unless you're really greedy.
