I'm not sure if my vegan friends are going to cheer (more Vegan treats to be had in Louisville!) or jeer (Vegan goods only one day a week!?!?!) but Cake Flour has announced Vegan Sundays.

Beginning October 5 Cake Flour will offer vegan options every Sunday in addition to our all-natural and organic treats! Stop in Sundays and see what vegan options proprietor Claudia DeLatorre has prepared especially for the occasion.
In the past Cake Flour has had vegan cupcakes in stock whenever I've stopped by so I've asked them for clarification about whether they'll still be serving vegan cupcakes on other days or if they're really going to regulate all vegan items to Sunday. They said there hasn't been enough demand to keep serving vegan cupcakes during the week so they'll only be available on Sunday, along with two other vegan items.

Dear Vegan Friends,

I have such good news for you. Sweet Surrender is now supplying Ramsi's with vegan desserts on a regular basis. Sweet Surrender proprietress Jessica let us know that the two most recent vegan delights she delivered to Ramsi's were vegan carrot cake with cinnamon soy
"buttercream" and a vegan chocolate beet cake with soy ganache. OK yum.

Dessert is on you next time we go to Ramsi's vegan friends. So make sure to ask your server what the vegan dessert specials of the day are.

Love,
Michelle
giantbunny-6.jpgI managed to hit both Sweet Surrender and Cake Flour this weekend and somehow managed not to fall into a deep, deep sugar coma. For my vegan friends I was pleased to find out that both bakeries are regularly offering vegan cupcakes.

Those are Cake Flour's vegan chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing to the right. While I didn't try them myself (I was too busy with lemoncello and non-vegan chocolate cupcakes) they looked very tasty. Vegans: your mission is to try both varieties and report back with how they are.

Both bakeries plan on offering more vegan dessert deliciousness in the future as well.
Rejoice my veggie loving and vegan friends in Louisville for Sweet Surrender is expanding their lunch menu.

Available Tuesday through Saturday from 11 AM to 2 PM, the strictly vegetarian menu features a variety of hearty vegetarian and vegan panini, salads and soups.

Favorites such as the Curried Egg Salad Sandwich and Portabella Panini are still available but a few highlights from the new menu include:

Edamame Salad ~ Shelled edamame tossed with fresh cucumbers, red peppers and wasabi dressing served on a bed of Mesclun greens. $5.99

Quiche of the Week ~ Individual quiche served with a side salad. Variations include sun-dried tomato goat cheese quiches and portabella brie quiches. $7.99

Black Bean Pita ~ Spicy black bean veggie burger chopped with red peppers, salad greens, sun-dried tomato and chipotle mayonnaise. Served with choice of Sun Chips or Cranberry Pear Bulgur Salad. $7.99

For a mid-day indulgence, try a half slice of cake or cookie for dessert. Half slices of all of Sweet Surrender's cakes are available during lunch only.
Of course the question is will they have a vegan dessert offering everyday for vegans who come for lunch? Inquiring minds want to know.

And did you know that Sweet Surrender has wifi? Maybe I'll start scheduling business meetings there. Ending a business meeting with cake is an excellent plan I think.
Earthsave Louisville is resurrecting its dormant dining out series for vegetarians. I don't know terribly much about Earthsave as an organization but I love the idea of social events for vegetarian diners so I'm definitely going to check this group out. Not this first month because well, just because, but hopefully next month's meeting will be somewhere super tasty and I'll be there. Perhaps I'll wear my Earth Day Hootenany t-shirt. Oh yes, I have an Earth Day Hootenany t-shirt my friends, courtesty of my aunt. It's gifts like that that make me keep my family around.

Several years ago, Earthsave Louisville had a dining out group that enjoyed visiting several local restaurants that were 'vegetarian-friendly.' These were fun events that were pretty well attended by those who don't (gasp!) especially enjoy cooking, but also by those who just like to eat out!

That said, we are planning a get-together the third Thursday of every month featuring a different restaurant.

This is an opportunity to socialize with other vegetarians and try some new restaurants. For our first venue The Grape Leaf restaurant has been selected.

Though I enjoy soy milk in my cereal I'm a dedicated flexitarian who drinks whole milk cappuccinos, really loves cheese and comes from a family full of dairy farmers. In other words, I'm not a vegan.

Consuming Louisville's referral logs tell me though that there are lots of people looking for information about vegan food in Louisville. Since I did the second post in the series Vegetarian Food in Louisville last week I thought now would be a good time to talk about vegan food. So I pooled my limited information in with knowledge gleaned from my very nice and helpful vegan friends. Hopefully this combined knowledge will be useful to the vegans amongst us.

First up we'll talk about vegan restaurant options:
